This is the third painting in my "Ships That Never Were" series. It depicts the British, Flower Class corvette "HMS Compass Rose" protecting an allied convoy during the early years of World War II. She and her crew are the subject of Nicholas Monsarrat's finest novel: "The Cruel Sea" first published in 1951. The painting was juried into the American Society of Marine Artists' Northeast Regional Exhibit held from May 2008 until January 2009.
